Absentee voting sign defaced

Someone changed the hours posted for in-person absentee voting at the Franconia Governmental Center. After a call from a constituent, Supervisor Jeff McKay (D-Lee) learned that someone "very neatly and precisely" changed the hours of absentee voting from 1-8 p.m. to 4-8 p.m.

"I am outraged that some hold our democracy in such low regard that they would falsify a county sign in hopes of preventing our citizens from casting their vote," McKay said, adding that he is concerned about potential voter suppression attempts in other parts of the county.

The Board of Supervisors voted Oct. 20 to ask that the Office of Elections closely monitor satellite voting sites.
