Springfield teen found dead in Maryland

A 14-year-old Springfield girl was found dead in the stairwell of an apartment building in Silver Spring, MD several weeks after running away from home.

Davonn Denise Dupree's death is being investigated as a homicide, according to Montgomery County, Md. police. Police said only that the cause of death was "attributed to multiple injuries" by the medical examiner's office.

Dupree, a student at South County Secondary School, had been reported as a runaway to Fairfax County Police around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, according to Officer Don Gotthardt, a Fairfax police spokesman.

She was found dead in the stairwell of an apartment building on Castle Boulevard, in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring, around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 18.

Fairfax County detectives have been assigned as liaisons to assist Montgomery County detectives with the investigation, Gotthardt said.

Montgomery police would like to speak to the male caller who originally contacted police to report the incident, as well as two occupants of a red Lexus that was reported to be in the area at the time of the 911 call. Anyone with information should call 240-773-5070. Callers may remain anonymous.

A few weeks before, another Fairfax County teen, 16-year-old Annie McCann, was found dead in a trash container in a public housing complex in east Baltimore, Md. Nov. 2 after running away from home on Halloween.

"There is no possible connection" between the two cases, according to Gotthardt.
