South Lakes track ends season on high note

The South Lakes boys track team finished off an historic season with a second-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay at last weekend's Nike Outdoor National track and field meet. The quartet of Nicholas Vaughn, Vincent Brown, Adrian Vaughn and A.J. Price crossed the finish line in 1:26.42, just more than a second behind the champion Waggoner Raiders.

"I am so proud," Seahawks coach Alfred Buckley said. "Words can hardly explain the excitement I feel. They were very focused. We just said, 'Go out there and have some fun.'"

The same four runners teamed up for the 4x100 relay, but were disqualified for being out of the hand-off zone during one exchange. The two Vaughns and Price then teamed with Kevin Hickey to place sixth in the 4x400 relay.

"It's fantastic," Buckley said. "The guys did real well. It came down to how prepared we are mentally and physically."

With both Adrian Vaughn and Brown returning next year, Buckley is excited to improve upon the success they enjoyed this season.

"I'm already thinking about how to get stronger," he said. "This will build a good base for next year."
