Romance, death and time travel
The McLean Drama Company will give audience members the chance to see two locally authored plays for the price of one this weekend at the Alden Theatre.“Thousands of Years – Rome,” by McLean resident Rachael Bail, is a love story that follows a couple, Octavia and Mario, over the course of 2,000 years, as they live, die and live again in various roles throughout history.
“I don't really say they're reincarnated. They just keep meeting each other throughout history,” Bail said. The play spans the time from ancient Rome to the 21st century, and includes the Nazi occupation of Rome and the Iraq War.
At the Sunday show, after Bail's romance, the drama company will also stage “Open Communication,” a comedy by McLean couple Katie and Alex Lewis, who won a 10-minute play contest. Their prize is seeing their play staged. The second- and third-place winners, both by Arlington resident R. Robert Griffin, were also comedies.
“Open Communication" should resonate with McLean residents as its main character spends the play stuck in traffic.
Kim Curtis and Maureen Kerrigan are directing the plays. Cast members are Allison Plourdes, Alexander Bastani, Jennifer Mayberry, Daveeda Shaheen, Barbara Baron, Joseph Branscomb, Sam Simon and Aaron Mahoney.
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Alden Theatre is at 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for groups.
