Man arrested for making bomb threats, assaulting police

A 24-year-old man is in custody after allegedly threatening to bomb the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church.

Previously banned from entering the center, Fatih Abdul-Rahim, of no fixed address, was being approached by police to escort him from the premises when he allegedly threw a knife at an officer, striking a 54-year-old bystander instead, police said.

The bystander was not hurt.

According to police, they then chased the suspect on foot, eventually subduing him after a struggle.

"While inside the cruiser, he kicked out the partition during transport," police said.

Abdul-Rahim, was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, making threats to bomb a building, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, simple assault and destruction of property.

He is currently being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
